The aim of this study is to show and compare the visualization of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) plaques with different location and activity using Magnetic resonance (MR) sequences.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, characterized by demyelination of the nerve fibers. The areas of loss of myelin or also called lesion have a characteristic appearance on all MRI sequences. Learning the different visualization of the plaques in the different MRI sequences could be of vital importance for the track of the disease and understanding its pathology.

The standard MRI techniques incorporated in the MS protocol are T1 +/ Contrast, T2, PD and FLAIR. Apart from these sequences, more advanced ones (DIR, SWI, DWI, ADC, DTI and fMRI) can help for better characterization of the plaques The T1sequence gives a general view of the brain’s anatomical structure, correlating with the anatomical colors for white and grey matter. The additional sequences are not standardly used, but they give additional information for the activity and progress of the disease, which could be of vital importance for the prognosis of MS.
