Background/Introduction
AFROSAFERAD is a radiation safety campaign for the African continent,
launched in Feb 2015,
and domiciled under the umbrella of the African Society of Radiology (ASR).
The mission of AFROSAFE is to promote a favorable benefit-risk ratio in the application of ionizing radiation for medical diagnostic and therapy interventions. AFROSAFE promotes adherence to global and national policies,
guidelines and actions for radiation safety,
guided by the International Basic Safety Standards (BSS) and the Bonn Call for Action.

These developments have been under the 10 points in the EuroSafe Call for Action below:
ACTION 1: CLINICAL IMAGING GUIDELINES
Development of a 3 year-logical framework for the adoption and adaption of clinical Imaging guidelines (CIG) in Africa organized and sponsored by the IAEA.

Conclusion and Recommendations
AFROSAFE has been an effective campaign platform for promoting radiation safety in several regions within Africa.
Launching of the French Chapter ensured that the French speaking countries worked in unison with the English speaking countries,
in the promotion of radiation safety. There has been progress in the formulation of strategies for the adoption and adaption of Clinical Imaging Guidelines (CIG),
with the support of IAEA. Through partnerships with region and national radiology societies,IAEA,
and WHO,
health workers are being educated on the use of CIG,...
Personal/Organisational information
AFROSAFE_RAD is under the umbrella of the African Society of Radiology.
It has a Steering committee chaired by Prof.
Dr.
Michael Kawooya.
The Deputy chair is Dr Rose Nyabanda.
Different African Countries are represented by Champions from that country.
There is a chapter for English-speaking Africa and a chapter for French-speaking Africa.
Dr Mansouri heads the French Chapter.
