SERAM contributions:
Clinical decision support,
clinical imaging guidelines:
SERAM have prepared a document on “Recommendations of not doing”,
(Fig. 2) which is being complemented by another one from our specific section about breast imaging.
Clinical audit:
We offer developed clinical audit tools as “Spanish protocol of Quality Control in Diagnostic Radiology” (Fig. 3) and referral guidelines for medical imaging as “standards in vascular and interventional radiology“ (Fig. 4), also formed Consents documents and the required elements and recommendations to include in.
Our society sections also contribute with technical recommendations,
for example about the utilization of protection material in X-ray explorations in paediatric population (Fig. 5).
Up-to-date equipements:
To promote the use of up-to-date equipment supporting papers as "Adquisition of products and services in Radiology" (Fig. 6) or "technological profile of Spanish hospitals" project in colaboration with FENIN.
Education and training in medical radiation protection:
To organize radiation protection training courses in collaboration with SEPR (Spanish radiation protection society) and develop e-learning material on the website and documents as “Just the right amount of radiation”.
Also several sessions on topics including radioprotection and management in radiology are planned in our National Congress.
Cooperation with international radiation protection initiatives
As in the "Conferencia Iberoamericana sobre Protección Radiológica en Medicina CIPRAM 2016" promoted by the WHO,
as consultants,
taking part in the scientific committee,
and as referees.
Collaboration with research:
Supporting projects to rationalize the use of radiation in medical imaging.
Improving communication and collaboration of health professionals in radiation protection:
Enforcing engagements with industry,
other societies (SEPR) and organizations (patients) working towards a global quality and safety culture in imaging,
we performed papers as "SERAM position on the risks associated with the doses of radiation used in radiodiagnostic" (Fig. 7) and we also support documents in opposition to the technological obsolescence.
Improving patient communication:
Website & newsletters: www.seram.es & www.inforradiología.org is up and running,
improving information for health professionals and communication with patients.
Members receive updates monthly.
We also use social media (twitter & facebook) for professional communication and education.
