Background/introduction
Real benefits for critically ill patients:
Bedside imaging is on the rise,
fueled by an aging,
less-mobile population as well as technological advances in mobile digital imaging.
In some cases,
up to 50% of in-hospital digital radiography procedures are now bedside chest exams.
But equipment and exposure limitations,
as well as patient pathology,
create sizeable challenges for technologists.
Among them is whether or not to use anti-scatter grids,
which can improve image quality and contrast detail by reducing the amount of scatter radiation reaching the...
Description of activity and work performed
Can we achieve the same level of image quality at the bedside as in the X-ray room?
Agfa HealthCare was the first manufacturer to develop image processing algorithms specifically for chest radiography,
and for many years its MUSICA image processing has optimized detail contrast under all conditions,
whether or not a grid is used.
MUSICA automatically optimizes output images,
saving time and effort,
while providing the consistently high image quality needed to support diagnoses.
Frost and Sullivan singled out “the enhanced value that customers receive...
Conclusion and recommendations
MUSICA3 Chest+: enhanced image contrast and smooth workflow
The study concluded that,
while grids may offer more favorable results in the controlled environment of an X-ray room with wallstand,
in the challenging domain of mobile and bedside chest imaging,
MUSICA3 Chest+ non-grid images were rated significantly higher than the MUSICA2 Genrad images,
both with and without an anti-scatter grid.
In particular,
MUSICA3 Chest+ provided significant improvements in lung field detail.
Furthermore,
MUSICA3 Chest+ offers valuable benefits for bedside imaging: enhancing patient comfort,
reducing the need...
