Background/introduction

The Japan Radiological Society (JRS) launched the “Japan Safe Radiology” project to achieve safer and more efficient medical imaging in Japan (Fig. 1). The project targets a variety of topics related to safety and efficiency of medical imaging: equipment/scanner distribution, radiation dose management, standardization and optimization of image quality and radiology report, and “Appropriate Utilization” of imaging. Description of activity and work performed

The Japan Safe Radiology project started to develop two types of CDSS as initial attempts; CDSS for pediatric head CT after minor trauma, and CDSS for lumbar MR for patients with low back pain. 1. CDSS for pediatric head CT after minor trauma Minor head trauma is a common clinical scenario for children who visit a hospital. Appropriate utilization of imaging is an important factor for improving patient safety, healthcare quality and overall healthcare outcomes in Japan The CDSS for pediatric head CT after minor trauma, and CDSS for lumbar MR for patients with low back pain were developed and tested in the Japan Safe Radiology project.
