To achieve the set objectives was necessary to perform a number of tasks:
- to make changes in regulatory acts;
- to update the material base of radiodiagnostics;
- to conduct explanatory work with experts both in the center and in all regions;
- to organize training of personnel for using new technologies;
- to provide quality and safety of X-ray examinations.
To unify efforts of radiologists,
scientists and engineers,
all stakeholders for the purpose of achieving the set goals,
the Center for X-ray Technologies was established in ARU in 1998.
Cooperation with clinicians,
first of all - phthisiatricians and oncologists was set up.
Joint conferences and meetings in the Ministry of Health were conducted,
promoting adoption of regulatory acts and State programs on fighting tuberculosis and oncologic diseases.
At the Executive Committee of ARU the outreach lecturing team was organized which within several years organising conferences and seminars on digital radiodiagnostics and guidelines on radiological imaging in all country regions.
Same conferences and seminars were organised by the Association within scientific programs of the largest medical exhibitions taking place in the country.
Together with the Ministry of Health the program of re-equipment of radiological service of the country has been developed which was then realized through State programs of fighting tuberculosis and oncologic diseases.
The domestic enterprises organized production of affordable digital radiodiagnosis equipment for realization of the planned program.
The ARU Centre for X-ray Technologies organised week-long courses for radiologists and technicians where they have been training to work on digital x-ray systems.
In the period from 2000 to 2006 more than 2000 persons from all the regions of the country have been trained.
In 2003 the Association organised the first Ukrainian Conference on Digital Radiodiagnostics.
Together with the chair of radiology department of National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after P.L.Shupik different programs have been developed for advanced training courses “Digital technologies in radiology” and “Selected problems of radiation medicine and radiation safety» which were attended in several years by more than 600 persons.
In 2007 at the meeting of Ukrainian-Swedish working group on bilateral cooperation the Association of Radiologists of Ukraine presented the project “Quality Assurance and Quality Control in Medical Radiology in Ukraine" which was supported and was realized in 2008-2013.
Within this project:
- Several conferences and seminars concerning assurance of quality and safety of radiological exams were hold,
attended by more than 500 persons;
- Over 100 Ukrainian experts were trained and staged on the above issues in the leading medical centres of Sweden,
Estonia and Belarus;
- The Ukrainian and Swedish medical physicists had jointly performed quality control of digital radiological equipment in a number of medical entities of Ukraine;
- The S.P.Grigoryev Institute for Medical Radiology and 5 regional radiology branches received complete sets of equipment for instrumental monitoring of X-ray equipment,
and Shevchenko National University received digital X-ray system for use in scientific research and training of medical physicists,
radiologists and technicians.
In 2010 the Association established the Ukrainian school for continuous postgraduate education in radiology named after Pr.
M.I.Spuzyak.
In 7 years the School has organised 18 courses in the regions of the country on different sectors of radiology,
attended by over 1000 radiologists from all the regions of the country.
Taken in account the important role of technicians in assurance of quality and radiation safety of radiological exams,
the ARU Center of X-ray Technologies conducts annual courses for them in the regions on the issues of assurance of quality and radiation safety of radiological exams.
Through the recent 5 years 12 such courses were conducted,
attended by over 600 technicians.
Since 2012 the ARU Center of X-ray Technologies every year organises the School of Digital Radiodiagnosis wherein the radiologists may improve their knowledge in using digital and information technologies.
Today in the medical entities of Ukraine over 1500 digital X-ray systems are operated.
More than one third of preventive exams of thoracic organs are carried out with digital x-ray equipment that allowed reducing by more than 25 % the collective effective dose for the population of the country and by 15-20 % increasing the sensitivity of preventive examinations.
Since 2014 in Ukraine de jure there is no preventive screening fluorography,
which was replaced by preventive X-ray exams of the chest in risk groups.
In 2016 the Association of Radiologists of Ukraine prepared the National Referral Guideline for Physicians who refer patients to radiological exam.
It was approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and recommended for introduction into clinical practice.
In 2017 with participation of the Association of Radiologists of Ukraine the Ukrainian Association of Medical Physicists (UAMP) and the Ukrainian Association of Radiology Technicians and Technologists (UARTT) were created.
The association is continuously engaged in developing international contacts with foreign colleagues,
attracting leading foreign experts for lecturing at the Ukrainian radiological fora and for participation in conducting courses on different sectors of radiology.
