Material and methods: Between September and October 2018,
a 35-question online tool was distributed through "Survey Monkey" electronic program to lecturers teaching RP in AAI.
The target participants were from a database of Lecturers,
Radiologists,
Physicists,
Radiographers and Radiotherapists based on list-serves of AFROSAFE,
PACORI and other imaging societies in Africa.
Emerging data was analysed for descriptive results.
Results: Twenty-seven respondents from 11 of out of the total of 54 African countries were received.
A total of 22 training institutions in Africa completed the survey with an average of 2 institutions per African country.
Five respondents were excluded as per the selection criteria set a priori to ensure single representation of each training institution.
Sixteen institutions (72.7%) were public training intuitions,
4(18.2%) were private for profit and 2(9.1%) were private not for profit training institutions.
Eighty-six percent of the institutions had a module in RP taught to the students undertaking Radiology/imaging training.
However,
36.6% respondents reported that their curricula did not indicate relevant materials for this module.
Regarding library resources, 12 (54.5%) institutions did not have a library stocked with vital textbooks in RP,
and only 11(50.5%) had electronic library materials such as ebooks and DVDs.
Over 15(68.2%).
Concerning skills-laboratories for to facilitate RP learning, 12 (54.4%) of the training schools had health facilities and skills laboratories respectively,
that are well equipped with RP training devices.
Concerning teachers,
teaching was done mostly by Radiographers 21(95.5%),
and Physicists (77.3%),
though Radiologists and Radiotherapists also participated but to a very little extent.
Regarding researching RP,
most research undertaken in these training institutions was accomplished as a requirement for completion of academic programs.
Only 5(22.7%) participants reported involvement in non-degree/diploma award-related research.
We also found limited education exchange programs and collaboration among the trainers 6 (27.27%).
Only 4(18.1%) had were involved with AFROSAFE activities,
3(13.6%) with IMAGE GENTLY and 2(9.0%) with EUROSAFE and national professional associations.
