Background/introduction
Interventional radiology represents one of the main examinations in the study of arterial or venous vessels and it has now entered the reference clinical protocols of the treatment of numerous diseases.
The knowledge of the employed acquisition clinical protocols is essential both for imaging and dosimetry in order to use the most suitable procedures.
This work provides an image quality analysis of the Siemens ArtisQ biplane angiographer in terms of spatial and contrast resolution by associating these parameters with the equivalent dose values to the...
Description of activity and work performed
The evaluation of imaging parameters was performed using a Gammex RMI 1151 Contrast-Detail phantom.
This is constructed of an aluminum plate with a 10 by 10 matrix of holes that vary in diameter (detail) and in depth (contrast).
The images were produced using the arc A of the Siemens ArtisQ biplane angiograph placing the phantom on the MCM4 stand model + D307 Flat Panel and filtering the Rx beam with 1 mm of copper,
as shown in Figure 1.
Three images of the phantom were...
Conclusion and recommendations
The Figure 2 shows a comparison between the areas of visibility obtained by the RMI 1151 phantom for the three fluoroscopy modalities using the objective method for the calculation of the contrast C.
The values of limit spatial resolution and contrast threshold were 0.58 mm and 4.3% in High Fluoroscopy (the highest dose modality),
1.6 mm and 7.5 % in Normal Fluoroscopy (the medium dose modality) and 2.4 mm and 11.3%,
in Low Fluoroscopy (the low dose modality).
The quality-image parameters obtained in high modality...
Personal/organisational information
Dose optimization strategies are organized in our hospital in staff between Radiographers,
Medical Physicists and Radiologists according to Euratom directives and Italian laws.
