Conclusion and recommendations
In this review, we have given an overview of the current knowledge on the main different aspects between children and adults concercing CT examinations, in the hope that it will contribute to practice radiology wisely. Overall, children are different from adults, they have a different anatomy concerning red blood marrow distribution in long bones, tissue thickness, higher heart rate and relative circulating blood volume, imature organs and different body composition. Pediatrics patiens have a higher risk on cancer induced by radiation, different radiosensitivity and diseases, they need additional sedation and a dedicated equipment, facilities and medical team. Adults have higher effective doses and growth of equivalent period of exposure to natural radiation for CT chest and abdomen. They are likely to develop colon or lung cancer due to cancer induced by radiation. The prevention is likewise for each age, it is a need to take all precautionary measures therefore is vital to adapt the technical and practical methods to the pathological condition of each age of patient.
