Background/introduction
In 2014, the CIRSE Radiation Protection Subcommittee launched its first annual awareness campaign to increase radiation safety; the Radiation Protection Pavilion (RPP). Over the years, the RPP at the annual CIRSE congress has established itself as hotspot for all questions related to radiation safety. It offers congress participants the opportunity to attend expert talks and explore the latest products for radiation protection and dose management, presented by industry partners.
The Radiation Protection Pavilion directly addressed three EuroSafe Call for Action points:

Description of activity and work performed
The RPP 2019 provided congress-goers at the 2019 CIRSE annual meeting with the opportunity to learn how to reduce and deal with critical radiation exposure of patients. Under the slogan Burning issues in radiation protection: critical dose levels and substantial radiation dose, the RPP offered a comprehensive scientific programme on radiation protection/dose management. Located at a central spot in the exhibition hall, the campaign included an open lecture area and an industry exhibition with 14 booths where visitors could explore the latest industry products for...
Conclusion and recommendations
The RPP 2019 was a success and its talks were well attended. The pavilion achieved its goal of raising awareness of the health hazards related to ionising radiation, and thus contributed to the efforts to increase the safety of medical staff and patients. Concerning the terminology, CIRSE promotes the terminology recommended by the ICRP and the use of DRLs for optimisation, and the term “trigger levels” to indicate the alert or alarm level for particular patients and particular procedures.
In the coming months, the CIRSE...
