Results

Results on the 10 cases show that HT provided superior conformity (Figure 1 & 2) and homogeneity (Figure 3) when compared to the IMRT plans (p value= 0.029 & 0.05 respectively). Homogeneity was similar between the HT and VMAT plans, however conformity was better on the HT plans (p= 0.017)

The mean PTV V100 for the HT plans were similar to the VMAT plans (86.3% vs 83.2%) but were better when compared to the IMRT plans (V100= 66.4%)

The HT plans consistently demonstrated that the dose received by the small bowel, femoral heads and rectum were lower than the IMRT and VMAT plans (Table 2).

However the bladder doses on the HT and VMAT plans were significantly higher than the IMRT plans (p= 0.023 & 0.021 respectively), likely due to the improved PTV coverage anteriorly.
