Background/introduction
The ESR Working Group on Imaging Referral Guidelines (IRG WG) was established at ECR 2016 as part of the ESR's Quality,
Safety and Standards Committee (QSSC),
charged with maintaining the ESR's referral guidelines which are the content of the ESR iGuide clinical decision support (CDS) system.
The WG works with the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Rapid Response Team (RRT) to develop clinical decision support content based on the ACR Appropriateness Criteria.
The WG recently completed the latest review and adaptation round of ACR content...
Description of activity and work performed
The main aim of the ESR IRG WG is to develop the content for ESR iGuide by reviewing and adapting the ACR Appropriateness Criteria and the ACR Select content and making it applicable to Europe.
Working closely with the ACR rapid response team,
the CDS content for ACR Select and ESR iGuide is maintained and updated on a continuous basis,
with new content versions released at least once per year.

Conclusion and recommendations
The ESR iGuide initiative is part of the ESR's quality and safety mission.
The ESR considers imaging referral guidelines essential for improving appropriateness in medical imaging,
and delivery of guidelines at the point of care through a clinical decision support system is the most effective way to do so.
The launch of a new stand-alone ESR iGuide web portal at ECR 2018 ensures that the ESR's guidance is widely available and can be consulted in a user-friendly format.
The development of CDS-ready referral guidelines is...
