Learning objectives
Focusing on different intra-articular synovial pathologies of the knee joint.
Highlight the main radiological findings of knee joint synovial lesions.
Demonstrate different imaging modalities used for their detection and characterization.
Describe the pertinent negative and positive imaging findings that can help to establish the right diagnosis.
Background
Knee pain is one of the common symptoms among most of the age groups including adolescent,
middle age and older adults attributed to different etiologies and pathologies.
Synovial knee pathologies are not uncommon to encounter in our daily work.
The early recognition of these different pathologies especially in young age groups like Hemophilic arthropathy can prevent significant comorbidities.
In this exhibit,
we will present a diversity of cases with synovial pathologies related to the knee joint,
utilizingdifferent radiological modalitiesincluding Plain radiographs,
Ultrasound,
and MRI.

Findings and procedure details
-Lipoma arborescence
Pathology and clinical presentation:
Lipoma arborescens is a benign joint disease in which non-neoplastic deposits replace and distend the synovium (8).
It is characterized by villous proliferation of the synovium,
with the replacement of the sub-synovial connective tissue by mature fat cells (7).
Its etiology and pathogenesis are still unknown (7).
Lipoma arborescens is most commonly located at the suprapatellar pouch and patients usually complain of painless swelling of the knee joint along with joint effusion (Fig. 1);however the limited range of motion...
Conclusion
Utilizing different modalitiesfor knee joint evaluation can help in reaching a confident diagnosis.
Radiographic evaluation of the knee joint is a cornerstone in imaging and can sometimes limit the differential diagnosis as well as limiting pitfalls that might happen from interpreting an MRI or ultrasound study without a reference radiograph.
