Methods and Materials
A comparative study was performed retrospectively on the women at high risk of breast carcinoma screened at our institution. Data was obtained from the database of patients who attended our family history clinic. These women were screened with annual mammography if deemed to be at high risk of breast carcinoma as per guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
The women were screened with screen-film mammography (SFM) in 2004 whereas the women were screened with digital mammography (DM) from July 2007 to July 2008.
Comparison was made between these two groups of women. Some patients were excluded from the study due to missing data. The data was recorded and analyzed for recall rates, cancer detection rates and needle sampling rates.
