Methods and Materials
This was a prospective study between December 2008 and June 2009.62 consecutive patients (age range, 18-75 years; mean age, 50 years) with clinically, Ultrasonography (transabdominal or transvaginal) or Computed tomography depicted pelvic masses were referred for pelvic MR imaging from the gynecologic oncology clinic at our institution. In all cases, the pelvic masses were examined by pelvic MRI and LAVA sequence after complete gynecologic and US assessment, which included a full medical history and clinical examination, full gynecologic examination, and appropriate laboratory tests. Patients are usually instructed to fast for 3–6 hours before the MRI examination. Ideally, the patient is asked to empty the bladder 1-2 hours before the exam.MRI was performed on a 1.5-T MR imaging unit (Signa HD; General Electric Medical Systems)using a eight-channel synergy pelvic phased-array coil. The images were obtained from aortic bifurcation to the symphysis pubis .The premedication with anticholinergic agent for bowel peristalsis was not performed . 0.1 mmol/kg of gadopentetate dimeglumine was achieved by antecubital vein as a contrast agent. The following sequences were obtained: precontrast axial T1-weighted (W),axial T2W,axial fat suppressed T1W,coronal STIR,sagittal T2W and postcontrast three sequences as axial 4 phase LAVA, sagittal T1W and coronal T1W. The time of postcontrast 4 phase LAVA was 1.23 minutes and the other postcontrast 2 series were 2.55 minutes. After the pelvic MR examination the radiologist get additional series from contrast enhanced series by digital subtraction programme in the work station. The pattern of contrast enhancement in LAVA sequence was evaluated in axial plaines. The pattern of contrast enhancement in LAVA sequence was considered as straight-lineari homogen-heterogeneus, peripheric-central and early-late. The comparison between malign and benign patients were done according to this patern.
