CBSERAM is organized by radiology residents who perform different functions.
So we have general coordinators,
editorial coordinators,
informatic coordinators and general reviewers according to our activity and seniority.
With a bi-monthly periodicity,
each member of the CBSERAM chooses one of the articles published in the journals with the highest impact index of our specialty (Radiology,
Radiographics,
European Radiology among others),
according to their personal interests or their time of training.
Initially,
the club coordinator randomly allocate the magazines to our club members.
After the assignment of a reviewer acting as a pair,
a critical review and a summary of that article is carried out (always following the same structured prototype),
assessing its strengths and weaknesses and the contribution it offers to current scientific knowledge.
After this,
the works are published in the CBSERAM blog and in a downloadable PDF in magazine format.
CBSERAM is accessible to everyone and its contents can be downloaded for free from the link: www.cbseram.com.
Additionally to encouraging interaction between different residents who otherwise would not have socialized,
the activity of the CBSERAM resides primarily in the peer review of these works,
valuing the writing,
involvement and analysis that each of the members makes of their work.
So,
the next step of the review process,
we'll do a peer review action with a critical reading of each review arguing possibles discrepancies or failures.
Also,
each resident involved has to read articles from the rest of the members that,
in many situations would not have them interested at first sight,
so we promote global knowledge of the specialty.
The ongoing work in the CBSERAM develops the editorial skills of the residents that comprise it: the writing,
the summary and the knowledge and use of the online editing tools improve as the revisions take place,
published always under the direct supervision of a peer reviewer and the coordination components,
who periodically read the papers,
comment on them and criticize them.
It should be noted that all work is carried out by radiologists in training,
it is a totally altruistic activity and we have the support of the SERAM.
Since its foundation on September 2013,
more than 50 radiology residents have cooperated in the club.
This activity is open to any radiologist in training who wants to participate,
being the only essential requirement being belonging to SERAM.
From the beginning we have counted on the invaluable collaboration of residents of other countries and nationalities,
most of them come from South America,
promoting the relationship between different societies.
Until December 2017,
we've been published about 508 blog posts,
with an average of 7 reviews of each of its members and an average membership in the CBSERAM of approximately 12 months.
(Fig 1).
Currently,
we have reached an average of 7000 monthly views from around the globe,
with a global number of views of almost 166000.
(Fig 2).
These visits are not only from the country of origin of the CBSERAM,
but they are spread around the world between North America,
South America and Europe,
fundamentally (Fig 3).
Our publication is addressed to specialists in the field of radiology but not exclusively,
since anyone with concerns in our specialty can access and comment on our contents.
Over the years the number of visitors has increased exponentially,
starting with 308 visits the month that the first PDF was published,
until reaching 11500 visits in the month of November of 2017 (Fig 4).
Among the future objectives of CBSERAM are:
- To have greater repercussion in the journal Radiologia (journal dependent of SERAM),
with publication of articles.
- Promote and maintain the publication of original articles that are useful for residents of all specialties.
- The inclusion of residents of other specialties in CBSERAM,
seeking an interaction similar to that which occurs in the hospital setting.
- Drafting of books in electronic format of the reviews carried out,
organized in organs and systems.
