Of the 14 patients included in the analysis,
10 were male and 4 were female,
with a mean age of 52.8 years (standard deviation of 8.2 years,
minimum 36 years and maximum 65 years).
The reason for the transplant was hepatocellular carcinoma in 8 patients and HCV induced end stage disease in 6.
All patients achieved a sustained viral response 3 months after treatment.
The values obtained in the two determinations of elastography performed on each patient are shown in Table 2.

Table 3.
Values of the different parameters studied,
including median SWV (P25-P75),
of patients with recurrence of hepatitis C virus infection before and after receiving antiviral treatment. SWE: shear wave velocity; ALT: alanine amino transferase; AST: aspartate aminotransferase; GGT: gammaglutayl transpeptidase.
After evaluating the normality of the variables,
it could not be established and nonparametric tests were conducted.
The median value of SWV before antiviral treatment was 1.97 m / s (interquartile range [RIC]: 1.75-2.1),
and after the treatment was 1.58 m / s (RIC: 1.45-1.66),
showing a statistically significant difference (Figure 3).
The average percentage of the decrease in SWV was 19% (95% confidence interval: 74-88%).
The patient not included in the analysis for presenting Budd Chiari syndrome achieved sustained viral response after antiviral treatment but showed progressive elevation of hepatic stiffness in the elastographic study.
Histologic results were obtained in 10 cases (after excluding one patient).
In 2 cases,
cholestatic fibrosing hepatitis was documented,
in 7 patients there were data of portal or lobular hepatitis or both (A2,
F0 on the METAVIR scale),
and only one showed,
in addition to the signs of hepatitis,
the presence of discrete fibrosis (A2,
F1 METAVIR scale).
