Results
The mean age was 32.7 ± 15.68 (range: 13-66 years old) in control group and 38.62 ± 12.77 (range:12-62 years old) in SHFP impingment group.
9 patients were male and 9 were female in control group and 19 patients were male and 16 were female in SHFP impingement group (Figure 12).
Fig. 12: Demographic data
A statistically significant difference (p = 0.038) was found between the TT-TG distance of the SHFP impingement group measured in the initial study and the posterior MRI study,
but no differences were observed between the TT-PCL distance between the initial studies and later in the control,
nor in SHFP impingement group (Figure 13).
Fig. 13: Variability of TT-TG and TT-PCL between initial and second studies of SHFP impingement and control groups
Also statistically significant difference (p<0.000) was observed between TT- TG measurement between the control group (mean,
7.11mm; SD 0.88mm) and the knee impingement group (mean,
12.6mm; SD 0.99mm) and Insall- Salvati index between the control group (mean,
1.07 mm; SD 0.04mm) and the SHFP impingement group (mean,
1.21mm; SD 0.03mm)(Figure 14).
Fig. 14: Results of different measurements in both groups
TT-TG was greater in SHFP impingement group in comparison with control group.
However,
TT-PCL measurements was lower in SHFP impingement group(Figure 15).
Fig. 15: Mean values of TT-TG and TT-PCL and I-S in SHFP impingement and control groups.
Stability,
worsening and improvement of edema in SHFP were observed in 74,
20 and 6% respectively of SHFP impingment group patients between initial and posterior examination.
Limitations of this study include a relatively small sample size and retrospective design.
Also MRI were not acquired with the same knee imaging device and measurements were made only by a radiologist.
