Patients
This prospective study was approved by our institutional review committee, and all patients provided an informed written consent prior to participation. From May 2012 to April 2019, Nineteen patients (10 males, 9 females; age range: 30-79 years; median age: 65 years) with CLM that underwent preoperative gadoxeticacid disodium-MRI without chemotherapy in the present study.
The median maximum tumor size was 2.5 cm (range: 1.0–6.2) .
All patients had a performance status of 0–1.
Methods - MRI Technique
MR images were obtained on 3.0T clinical scanner equipped with a Cardiac coilforT2-weighted images and Dynamic images. Dynamic images using fat-suppressed T1-weighted gradient-echo images with a three-dimensional (3D) acquisition sequence were acquired before and 35, 90, and 180 sec and 20 min after the administration of gadoxeticacid disodium (0.1mL/kg,1ml/s). Hepatobiliary phase images were acquired 20 min after an intravenous bolus injection of gadoxeticacid disodium.
Methods –RTE
Two sets of axial images were acquired from three types of liver images: precontrastenhancement images, 20min after the administration of gadoxeticacid disodium images. RTE values were defined as the signal gain percentage between the precontrastand post-administration images as follows:RTE values (%) = [(SIE − SIP)/SIP] ×100 … (1)
where SIEare the signal intensities in the 20 min post-administration images, and SIPare the precontrastenhanced images, respectively.
Methods-RTE image
RTEimages were constructed on the basis of RTE values at each pixel and calculated using equation (1). Therefore, the signal intensity of each pixel was representative of the corresponding RTE value in the RTE images.
Methods– Entropy values
The entropyvalues were independently measured in theMRI and histomorphometryimages(H&E)by the two radiologists and a PhD. The tumors were measured. Thetumors were one tumor with the maximum diameter for each patient. Region of interest (ROI) was acquired by using PopImaging(ver. 6.10) medical imaging software. The hepatobiliary phase images were used to define ROIs for the size and location of tumors. The entropyvalues was measured the CLM images on the basis of gray-level co-occurrence matrix(GLCM)[6].
Methods-Statistical analyses
Statisticalanalyses were performed by using the Prism software package. Pearson‘s r was used to evaluate the correlation ofentropy between MRI images and histology images.Two-tailed Pvalues < 0.05 were considered statistically significant.
