Background
The ileum is the final part of the small bowel, following the duodenum and jejunum. The ileum is 2-4m in length and is separated from the cecum by the ileocecal valve.
This part of the gastrointestinal tract has a large list of various diseases. An optimal technique with adequate bowel distention by enteric contrast is required to evaluate small bowel abnormalities
CT enterography helps to identify small bowel or extraintestinal disorders and their complications, and also helps with the differentiation of these diseases. CT enterography is noninvasive, easy to perform, and allows visualization of extraenteric structures as well as of the bowel wall.
Both CT and MRI have good performance for the diagnosis of small bowel disorders.
