To review the anatomy of the fingers. To illustrate the radiological findings of typical and atypical soft tissue tumoural and pseudo-tumoural lesions involving fingers. To make an approach to the differential diagnosis based on pathological correlation.

Soft tissue lesions of fingers are commonly encountered in clinical practice and are often benign.[1] Due to the anatomical complexity and different kind of constituents of fingers (tendons, muscles, vessels, nerve fibers, and adipose tissue) a wide spectrum of pathologic conditionscan occur.[2] (Fig. 1,Fig. 2,Fig. 3) Multiple imaging modality techniques are used to evaluate the location and nature of these lesions, offering complementary information.[1,4,5] (Fig. 4) MR imaging is the gold standard technique for accurate tissue characterization of soft tissue lesions by noting features as...

Typical and atypical soft tissue tumours of fingersare analysed through different X-ray, US, CT and MRI studies performed at our Institution. The standard of reference is cytology/histopathology in most of the cases. Cysticlesions[1,3,5,7] (Fig. 8) Ganglion/synovial cyst(Fig. 9) Both synovial and ganglion cysts have a thin connective capsule and contain fluid or mucinous material so are indistinguishable on imaging. Through this anatomic-based imaging review of soft tissue tumours and pseudo-tumours of fingers we expect to remark in a schematic way the key features to help radiologists accurate a correct diagnosis. Dynamic and functional MRis the imaging modality of choice in evaluating these lesions. Especially perfusion and enhancement time-intensity curve analysis will improve tissue characterization. It will also be crutial a correct correlation with medical history.
