Learning objectives
• To identify key imaging features that distinguish the different types of cystic pancreatic lesions.
• To describe the best diagnostic modality for identifying different cystic pancreatic lesions.
• To show imaging findings that enable the differential diagnosis of pancreatic cystic lesions to be narrowed.
• To demonstrate the main imaging features that lead to correct diagnosis
Background
A plethora of cystic pancreatic lesions are encountered on cross sectional imaging in daily practice. The radiology plays a major role in the diagnosis and characterization of these pancreatic lesions. Multi-modality imaging, such as US, multi-detector CT, MRI, endoscopic ultrasonography, SPECT, and PET/CT, can help in prompt diagnosis and helps in management plan. MRI has improved the analysis and morphological distinction of pancreatic lesions, and are now widely accepted as the principal imaging modality. The majority of these lesions are benign or indolent neoplasms of...
Findings and procedure details
Data of patients are collected from hospital data system. The imaging findings of different pancreatic cystic lesions are elaborated to help physicians in accurate diagnosis and management of benign and malignant pancreatic lesions
This exhibit will include pancreatic lesions like: Pseudocyst, Pancreatic serous cystadenoma, Pancreatic mucinous cystadenoma, Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm, Pancreatic Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma etc.
Conclusion
Pancreatic cystic lesions encompass a wide spectrum of benign and malignant pathological entities, many of which have distinct characteristics that can be well depicted on imaging. The importance of imaging in finding lesions in pancreas and establishing their position and closeness to surrounding structures is well understood. The appearance of pancreatic lesions imaging is critical because the entities described in the differential diagnoses can alter the clinical approach and prognosis.
