Description of activity and work performed
Can you handle the risk? The 2015 Radiation Protection Pavilion offered a large number of interactive activities,
services and tailored information material that could be explored by congress delegates.
Located directly in the technical exhibition,
the campaign covered a total area of over 250 m2,
including an open auditorium and information area,
an examination area,
11 industry booths and the EuroSafe information stand.
Let’s talk about the risk. A very popular new feature were the Mini-Talks,
which covered a broad range of hot topics in radiation safety and dose management.
A total of twenty short presentations were held by the experts of the Radiation Protection Subcommittee and industry partners in a mini-auditorium directly in the pavilion.
The open and informal format of these talks motivated a large number of visitors to stop by,
listen in and take part in the discussions.
The presentations are now available for download on the pavilion website.
We see the risk! In response to the large demand for the complimentary lens opacity screening at CIRSE 2014 in Glasgow,
even more slots for free eye-checks were offered in 2015.
This exclusive service aimed to raise awareness of the risk of radiation-induced cataract formation,
indicated by recent research findings [1].
Two senior Portuguese ophthalmologists performed over 70 eye-checks in the Radiation Protection Pavilion,
and lens opacities were detected in 13% of all participants.
How to manage the risk. A variety of information material and best-practice guides selected by CIRSE’s Subcommittee was available to take away,
and delegates could test their knowledge with the online self-assessment quiz.
EuroSafe Imaging and select industry partners that sponsored the project set up their booths in close proximity,
offering information about the latest protective technologies,
two radiation safety simulators and interactive tools.
This approach facilitated a fruitful dialogue with industry,
while maintaining the society’s autonomy regarding the information material on display.
