Purpose or learning objective
Clinical audit importance and benefits are already well established in everyday medical practice
Participation in clinical audit is also mandated within the EU-BSS (European Basic Safety Standard/2013/59/Euratom)
In the fields of diagnostic and interventional radiology (cardiology), radiotherapy and nuclear medicine where ionizing procedures are utilized quality and safety challenges have been identified
The European commission and other agencies have identified continuing difficulties in implementing clinical audit in high risk medical exposure practices
The consortium is supported by a steering group and an advisory board with...
Methods or background
QuADRANT is a pan-European project on behalf of the European Commission, running over 30 months, it commenced in January 2020
Quality Improvement Through Audit in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Radiotherapy And Nuclear Medicine Including Therapies = QuADRANT[Fig 2]
In response to the European Commission tender N0 ENER/D3/2019-231-2; "Constant improvement in quality and safety of radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine through clinical audit". The European Society of Radiologist submitted a competitive tender application
The project consortium is led by the European Society of Radiology (ESR) partnering...
Results or findings
The project will seek to evaluate current clinical audit practice and existing guidance across European member states
QuADRANT will also aim to identify perceived barriers to audit participation and provide recommendation to improve uptake of good clinical audit practices to enhance patient experience and outcomes
SPECIFIC QuDRANT OBJECTIVES
Review the status of implementation of clinical audits in the member states
Identify good practices in Member States available guidance and resources for clinical audits, national, European and international level
Provide further guidance and recommendation on improving...
Conclusion
QuADRANT is an exciting new project on behalf of the European Commission with the ESR as the lead consortium partner
It will provide an update on clinical audit practice across Europe aiming to improve patient outcomes in both everyday clinical practice and in the field of radiation protection.
