Background
Cross-sectional imaging modalities especially spiral computed tomography (CT) has improved the evaluation of the diseases affecting duodenal sweep when compared with barium studies and ultrasonography (US). In spite of this, all radiologic imaging modalities may have a contributary role in interpretation of duodenal diseases. Nevertheless, duodenum is frequently an overlooked segment of gastrointestinal tract for radiologist in most imaging pocedures (1).
Although primary diseases of doudenum are rare, several secondary processes may involve duodenum due to it’s both intra and extraperitoneal localization, proximity to pancreas, stomach, hepatobiliary and intestinal system. Here many examples of congenital anomalies, inflammatory processes, adjacent inflammatory diseases, tumors, solid and cystic paraduodenal lesions, traumatic lesions, foreign bodies and post operative lesions of duodenum will be presented.
