Methods or background
The audit was registered with audit department of our institution. As this was an audit with no intervention, formal ethics approval and individual patient consent was not required. A retrospective review of reports of all CT – Pulmonary angiogram (CT PA) done during the period from July 2019 to December 2019 in our institution was done. The positive cases were identified and were included in the audit. Patients with known underlying malignancy and other provoking factors were excluded. Patient’s demographics and comorbidities were collected and analyzed.
Unprovoked PE was defined as those positive cases without any known underlying cause at presentation. Their imaging records were reviewed to look if they had CT Abdomen and pelvis (CT AP) and if they were done along with CT PA, subsequently or prior to CT PA. The reports of such CT AP were reviewed to look for any pathology identified, further suggestions made such as additional imaging or other invasive investigations. The records were reviewed for any biopsies performed, their pathology, and eventual outcomes. The data was analyzed in an excel sheet.
